First Film Steps and a Friendly Hello!
Hi! My name is Alex and as you probably guessed I am a student filmmaker. I am starting this blog as a way to share my experiences entering the film industry as well as share advice. It is my hope that by opening this journey to more people who also feel that they are often stumbling or just trying to figure out what they want to do and what steps to take they can find some comfort and usefulness here.
I graduated Boston University in 2020 with a degree in ‘Film and Television’ and I soon chose ArtCenter College of Design to pursue my masters in. I’ve had a lot of people tell me this isn’t necessary in the film industry. This is where I will first mention what I’m sure I’m going to be stating non-stop through my posts. Your journey is going to look different from everyone else’s and that’s ok. Pursuing my masters is a step that has been important to me for a number of reasons. I focused on writing in college, I started as an English Lit major and transferred into Film, with a focus in screen writing and so had very little experience in the practical side of production. I had even less experience actually being on set.
Now I’m living in LA and taking classes exposing me to an entire side of film that I previously had no knowledge in. Due to the pandemic I have had to pursue on-set experiences myself and I will go into further detail on that in another post. I’ve gained confidence, knowledge and honed my skills in the last year. Film school and moving to LA are experiences that have their ups and downs. I won’t talk your ear off since this is the first post. I can’t wait to share everything I know and am learning with you as we go on this journey!
